Be a bit cautious about openpogo. The guides are fine, but: * Issue with NSLU2 Optware credits. Was an Optware user for several years, and I could see the similarity of his repository with optware. doing some diffs, it was the same. Have to compel the guy to put the optware recognition it deserves. He has acknowledge it now on his webpage. * Be careful about the script and base tar.gz file. He overwrites one important file found in /etc/rcS. If there are updates to pogoplug on /etc/rcS, and you install the base afterwards, you will have the old rcS, which is not good. The base.tar.gz is roughly the result which can be found on http://www.nslu2-linux.org/wiki/Optware/HomePage. * simplistic script was designed to write to the 450Mb flash part of pogoplug. It is okay I guess for light loads, but my test for mysql and php was slow. Better to put the medium loads on an usb harddrive. FYI, pogoplug(or sheeva plug) + WD Green 1Tb harddrive is a killer combination. It only consumes 10watts via kill-a-watt and even less once the automatic hardware spindown kicks in. This is good for 24/7 server at home. I also disable the pogoplug daemon for now since I don't trust it, and just use it strictly as a Linux server. There are some issues when disabling it, but have fixed it and more, like enabling GMT (pogoplug uses UTC). As a perspective, pogoplug alone and acting as Linux server consumes around 5W. My desktop powered down and doing nothing is consuming 5W as well! how Technology changes... regards, Andre | http://www.varon.ca _________________________________________________ Philippine Linux Users' Group (PLUG) Mailing List http://lists.linux.org.ph/mailman/listinfo/plug Searchable Archives: http://archives.free.net.ph
