I agree that we should put a special interest on embedded linux.
I can see this happening in the next 2 to 3 years:
You will no longer deploy X86 systems. Instead you will deploy
ARM-based servers. Reasons:
a. ARM processing power is approaching x86
b. ARM cpu is a lot cheaper and so its board. You can have a
small office mail and web server for less than P6k!
c. ARM-based server is power efficient. you can run it under 5W.
X86 servers run at 50W and above!
d. ARM-based server has a very tiny footprint - you can put in your pocket
Same thing will happen to your favorite netbook. Pretty soon it will
run on an ARM processor especially if you love Linux.
And the best part, major linux distros have ARM based ports. Good
example is Ubuntu Jaunty. Installing your favorite apache is as easy
as : apt-get install apache2 . No need to perform bloody
cross-compiling and porting.
