on windows, my brother-in-law uses jaws.  apparently, that's
the most popular windows software for the blind.  it's commercial
and it still sounds robotic.  there's probably not much that
can be done about that. it'll be a LONG while before software
understands what it's reading well enough to put the appropriate
emotions or rising and falling tones into what it says.  until
that time, the only way to make readers for the blind that don't
sound wrogn is to have them speak in a monotone.  thus robotic.

what are the clients trying to do?  some sort of call center
robot that can talk to people from a script and not sound like
a robot? :-).  hehehe.

i see that there are some pointers to possible solutions.
if you find something that actually sounds human post to the
list :-).  my brother-in-law and his network of blind friends
might be able to benefit from your research :-).
