I installed Fedora 7 test 3 (Release 6.92) on my Dell
laptop on April 22, 2007. Fedora 6.92 installed the
kernel vmlinuz-2.6.20-1.3023.fc7, and many other
late-releases of major applications. After
installation, my desktop icons were different from the
icons of Fedora Core 6. When the software updater
program told me that there were several hundred
updates available for download, I agreed to install
those updates. It took the whole night to download the
updates. When I rebooted the next day, my system had
been upgraded to Fedora 6.93 (information from the
file /etc/issue), and the desktop now has a totally
different look.

My kernel is now vmlinuz-2.6.20-1.3094.fc7 and my Open
Office is now openoffice.org-core-2.2.0-14.6.i386.rpm.
We notice that the desktop icons for Terminal, Text
Editor, Open Office, Computer, Trash, and Ambo's Home
changed in the upgrade from 6.92 to 6.93. I am sure
that these are not just cosmetic changes, but that the
underlying software has become more robust after each
new release.

I am revising my estimate of the stability of Fedora 7
pre-releases. I believe that Fedora 7 will be
released on time, according to the Fedora/RedHat
published schedules.

I can not include a picture of the 6.92 to 6.93
desktop changes here, but check out my blog for a
picture of the changes:
