vi(m)

I tried it the first time I immersed myself in Linux. (I remember
using the tutorial installed)
It was very hard to understand at first (because of command & edit modes, etc.).
It is simply radically different from the editors I got used to in the
windows world.
You have to change your whole mindset (just like when you try to
switch to Linux).

After passing the learning curve, I never used notepad-like editors again.
In the end, I am more productive (more work done in less time).

* Imagine editing files without moving your hand to the numeric pad OR
arrow keys (less energy consumption).
* Imagine deleting 9 lines in 3 key strokes (less than a second).
* Cut & Paste in few keystrokes (no more strain from mouse highlighting).
* Yup, it has tabs and syntax highlighting.

There are still tons of things to learn ... which makes it exciting. :-)

Though I haven't tried emacs yet.

Enjoy!
