Hi David,

My guess is that most of the folks on this list already have a
preference for one distro or another given their technical background
and years of experience in using free and open source software.

Others simply do not believe that Bayanihan is a worthwhile endeavor
and would rather support or promote their distro of choice or whatever
distro is the current rave. Once I overheard a professor tell a
student who was excited to see the new version of Bayanihan that it is
"too soft".

But inspite of this, I think that Bayanihan Linux developers remain
committed to helping bridge the digital divide between the
Philippines' e-haves and e-have-nots by coming out with innovations
that address the Philippines' unique circumstances.

AFAICT Bayanihan users are new to FOSS and mostly come from the
academe, small businesses and government and because of their lack of
experience with FOSS they take advantage of the free technical support
Bayanihan provides.

Most of them do not even participate in groups like PLUG for the first
year or so and so Bayanihan developers are oftentimes the first people
they talk to when they want to find out about FOSS.

The auto back-up feature of GEdit is definitely annoying. My favorite
editors are vi on cli and scite on X and win32.

Yup, used v3.1 for around 6mos as my primary distro. That was before I had a
broadband connection. It was Bayanihan that introduced me to the wonderful
world of RPM and Fedora. Hopefully v4 would attract a few more users,
especially those in the gov't sectors.

Download baby, download!!!

Good to hear.

The reason I ask is because it ranks very low on the Distrowatch
counter, and for me personally, I will send in an email to the main
email address, and get a reply within two to three weeks if I'm lucky.
Today I downloaded and installed (tried to) v4 and it failed 1/2 way
through the install leaving me with a useless laptop until I put another
temporary distro to recover the master boot partition.

I like the idea of Bayanihan, but still think it would be better served
if it were part of Asianux were the efforts of the developers would be
better recognized.

I honestly agree that this is a sick joke to a person in dire need of
assistance from the PLUG/techie community, I'm also ashamed to say that it
made me smile.

hello elmer...

i already answer his question from my first line below... all he need to
do is to get the ip address thru netstat...

once he gets it... record the date and time... know who is the isp/owner
of that ip address thru whois... and the rest is history...

if the ip address happens to be a dialup ip address using a prepaid
card... his only chance is to get the caller id with the help of the owner
of that ip address....

but of course... solving a problem takes multiple angles to do it....
since he knows the yahoo id of a thief... he can do a lot of things to solve
it.... for instance... he can use women to message and attract that thief to
have a SEB for an entrapment :-> women is still effective for a man's
weakest point since the time of adam and eve :->

fooler.

I hate to weigh in on an editor discussion as it can lead down the
slippery slope to an all-out editor war, but I have to give "props" to
Stallman and the FSF for creating the infinitely customizable and
extensible Emacs - my editor of choice since, well, a loooong time ago.
  :-)
