Well the firmware's obviously _not_ GPL; what I saw earlier was the
GPL'ed modules (which, incidentally, is available only as source in
Debian's contrib section, `ipw2200-source'; it can't get into Debian
main due to its dependency on the non-free firmware.) Hence, there's
no license issue at all if only the drivers are at our concern;
combine the firmware, and its a fuzzy mix.
I suppose Ubuntu has secured permissions from Intel allowing them to
redistribute firmware as part of the distribution (the first part of
the linked agreement above applies.)

Is the ipw2200 firmware available as a separate package (I can't seem
to find it, in packages.ubuntu.com there is only the ipw2200 driver)
and is it automatically included in the installation when the centrino
is detected?
