Recollect this forum discussing the issue of ITR filing utilities exclusively tied to proprietary software platforms, years back.
Last few years have been better in this regard with the IT Dept providing platform independent utilities to prepare your returns. This year they have come up with a new portal. There are many problems with it. Most severely, if you fill some data in the morning, you can't be assured it will be found there till evening. Even fully filed returns are simply vanishing leaving no trace. Tried checking the offline filing utilities and they have now gone back to the bad old days by providing an 'exe' only. Agree, majority of the people use Windows. But still it's a step backward after providing platform liberty for last few years. Further the exe doesn't run in wine.
