Hello, First of all, the force option is necessary as some packages did need manual intervention.See [1] and [2]. Arch uses an initramfs image that then boots up the actual file-system. If you have the same error as shown in the forum link, either grub is not configured properly (note that it uses grub-legacy by default) or hooks have not been defined properly. Read [3] for hooks, update them as needed in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and run # mkinitcpio -p linux as given in the forum link.
