This is because the Windows C, D and E drive are not visible to
Ubuntu. Only that 8 GB disk is visible.

You could share the drives on Windows, and access these via Ubuntu's
network tools.

No, this is not a risk with VirtualBox - they perform a lot of testing
before they release anything.
