Hi all,
  This was interesting. Actually Liberation fonts has a license that
contravenes the debian free software guidelines. There was a
fascinating discussion on the debian-legal mailing list about 3-4
months back or even little earlier where they worked on the pros and
cons and if this could be resolved.

Also it took quite some time to come to the Ubuntu fold as well. Now
its there in the Ubuntu repository as well.  The first release of it
was on 12th June.

Its available in the Ubuntu repository. Search for ttf-liberation :)
