Don't know about dell but for compaq, do ask for free goodies. My impression is free goodies are offered for models that are on their way out(i..e still supported but newer models need to take the front space). So they do add a lot of value. Plus being incentive, you can trade them for RAM upgrade(for things like laptop bag) which is even better. I took a month before I make a decision and landed up with a model that costed me 28000/- for 1GB RAM instead of 26000/- for 1.5 GB RAM + goodies. The cheaper model got retired in the meantime.
