FFMPEG!
This is the best that you can think of ! Convert your videos to DivX and you will have good quality and small space.
For e.g. I compressed a DVD vob file: 1Gb to very good quality 300 Mb. Now is n't that cool? And yes its fast too. But be carefully on my p4 2.4 Ghz machine it takes 15 min to convert a 1Gb file to 300 Mb file.

HI guys,
I have some video clips which I wish to archive. I have heard and seen that
using the MPEG 4 compression, I can compress the video file size. I have
been told that doing this the quality decreases. But still I wish to give it a try.
Has anybody of you done so? Which software did you use? I have also heard that it takes a very long time to compress, say 650MB MPEG 1 file.
Do let me know
