ntpd is a NTP daemon (server). You need client.
'man ntpdate'

e.g.
# ntpdate ntp1.curie.fr

Few other servers:
ntp1.sp.se
clock.redhat.com(stratum 1)
clock2.redhat.com
pool.ntp.org
ntp.debian.org
