Hello,

It depends on the distribution.

You could probably find out by typing:

  locate "COPYING"

at your shell prompt. Lots of results should come from this, and you
should be able to tell where the license information is generally
held for packages.

On Debian, it is often in the /usr/share/doc tree.

But, no, there isn't a certain directory or folder that is guaranteed
to contain a copy of the license.
