This could be a special case because of the significant benefit it could bring 
KDE — so unlike other features I don't think it's impossible, but you'd need to 
convince a lot of people and very thoroughly test it, and then we should advise 
downstream that we've introduced this.

What are people's thoughts on adding the donation popup into this last
Plasma 5 release? The popup for this could be set for January.

All very good points. If it's not possible that is understandable. I just thought it was an opportunity to catch some of those Debian and other distro users that still run Plasma 5 in our fundraising sooner.
