Just chiming in, that I never liked this behaviour either. I execute scripts from the terminal, sometimes via Thunar's `custom actions' right-click menu, but never, *ever* want to run them from the file browser. IMHO, Thunar should only try to execute *.desktop files by default, and if the user really wants to execute, rather than open an executable file for editing, they should be able to do so via a right-click menu, but never by default. But that's not the bug I came to report, just got distracted.
