I experienced the same symptoms that the original creator of this bug did where it would take 30 seconds to start Firefox and waybar (amongst other applications) on my Debian 12 installation. I'm currently running:
sway 1.7-6 xdg-desktop-portal 1.16.0-2 xdg-desktop-portal-wlr 0.7.0-1 xdg-desktop-portal-gtk 1.14.1-1 I was able to work around the issue by adding the following lines to the end of my ~/.config/sway/config file: exec "dbus-update-activation-environment --systemd --all " exec "dbus-update-activation-environment --systemd XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP=sway " Hopefully this can help anyone else who stumbles on this bug report.
