- my user shell is bash (echo $SHELL ----> /bin/bash)

if [ "$SHLVL" = 1 ]; then
[ -x /usr/bin/clear_console ] && /usr/bin/clear_console -q
fi

Changing if [ "$SHLVL" = 1 ] in .bash_logout to if [ "$SHLVL" = 2 ]
solves my problem; now X doesn't crash and I can switch between my openbox
session (on tty1)
and other tty's (logged in or not) just fine.
