Fwiw, the real interesting issue regarding this bug report is, that those old core files are still there. It doesn't make a lot of sense to store old core files for a longer period of time, so systemd ships this tmpfiles snippet to clean up /var/lib/systemd/coredump/ # grep coredump /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/* /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/systemd.conf:d /var/lib/systemd/coredump 0755 root root 3d I.e., files that are older then 3 days should be removed by systemd automatically. Not sure why does weren't cleaned up on Dan's system Would be interesting to run "stat" on those core files and have the output of SYSTEMD_LOG_LEVEL=debug /bin/systemd-tmpfiles --clean and systemctl status systemd-tmpfiles-clean.service -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
