During early boot, when the journal is not yet available, log messages are logged to the kernel ring buffer and later flushed to the journal. The log messages you quoted in your first mail, were those directly after a reboot? -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
