Do you have a /etc/udev/hwdb.bin? If so, udev should use that one instead of the one from /lib/udev/hwdb.bin. Can you provide us with a debug log from udev and/or strace. This should give an indication if the file from /etc/ is loaded. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
