Fwiw, I will clarify the documentation in /usr/share/doc/README.Debian, that the /var/log/journal directory should be created 2755 root:systemd-journal The set-group ID ensures that newly created directories and files under /var/log/journal are owned by root:systemd-journal. -- Why is it that all of the instruments seeking intelligent life in the universe are pointed away from Earth?
