Fwiw, I pulled the debian_wheezy_amd64_desktop.qcow2 qemu-kvm image from [1], started it with "qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -hda debian_wheezy_amd64_standard.qcow2". Then did a dist-upgrade to jessie, which replaced sysvinit with systemd-sysv as default. Did a couple of reboots and couldn't find any corruption in any of the rsyslog managed log files.
