I'm not entirely sure which package this bug belongs to, but it happened
when upgrading systemd, and systemd is my best guess here. Please feel

When upgrading to systemd 253-3, my GNOME session restarted. From the

I'm wondering if this might have happened because
/lib/systemd/system/user@.service was changed (to use notify-reload, as
indicated in the above log messages)?
Yes, I'm aware of the general guidance to do upgrades from within a
screen/tmux/etc session or similar. However, ordinarily upgrading
systemd does not result in killing the whole session.

When upgrading to systemd 253-3, my GNOME session restarted. From the
logs:
...
I distupgraded a test-vm running GNOME/Wayland from bookworm to trixie but
couldn't trigger the failure.
Can you still reproduce the issue? And if so, provide steps how we can
reproduce it ourselves?
I can give you the exact set of package upgrades performed in the same
run, which might help:
I tried another dist-upgrade of the test VM from 252.12 to 253-3 from
snapshots.d.o.
This all worked without issues.
I notice, that the upgrade log also mentions upgrades of packages like
libgjs, libdrm etc. which might have an effect on gnome-shell. Might be,
that the session stopped because GNOME shell restarted.
As we don't have a way to reproduce the issue, I'm tentatively closing
the bug report. The bug report has been open for about 2 months without
other users confirming it. So it might just have been a fluke.
That said, if it happens again, please let us know and we can reopen the
issue. For now, the bug report is not actionable.
Regards,
Michael
