I'm hit by the same bug, although until reading this page I had been
unable to diagnose it: in my case (Compaq 6910p, "Intel Corporation
82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller (rev 03)"), when the wrong sink
("Analog out") is selected, I do hear audio from the speakers, but at a
very low volume.I just want to add two informations: - I'm unable to reproduce reliably, but I am quite confident that this bug only occurred to me in coincidence with a suspend+wakeup, - until now (since I didn't know pavucontrol would help), I worked around this bug by plugging in and out the headphones: this always termporarily fixes the problem.
