When playing back .m4a files (downloaded from iTunes some time ago), I
see a funny effect with playback/total time information.
mplayer opens an X window displaying the album artwork and, as per my
configuration, an OSD showing playback time and total duration of the
stream.
This OSD correctly displays the song as being 00:03:43 long, however,
the playback time remains at 0:00:00.
On the other hand, on the console, the stream length is displayd as ??
seconds, but the playback time is incremented and displayed correctly -
although this only happens in seconds, whereas for other file formats,
both decimal seconds and h:mm:ss is shown on the console.
This raises several questions:
- Why does the OSD know the duration, while the conolse says it
doesn't?
- Why does the console show playback time, while the OSD has no idea?
- Why isn't mplayer able to determine the h:mm:ss format while it knows
the playback time in decimal seconds quite well, *and* can do so in
the OSD for the track duration?
Cheers,
Nik
