very good point, I have the same impression. When libav forked off of ffmpeg back then, I have heard and read many people say that "with Debian and Ubuntu switching away to libav, ffmpeg is as good as dead and will vasnish within the next few months." Well, obviously this didn't happen. Also, while I cannot speak for the personal tension that has led to the fork, it seems to me that most of the technical and project management related issues that were subject to complaint in ffmpeg back then have been addressed nowadays. So, it seems to me that the pages have turned and libav is still there because Debian and Ubuntu are using it -- and not the other way round. - Fabian
