Thanks for the answer, but unfortunately no, after applying what was changed according to the diff to the local file (don't know how to view/download individual files in VLC's own GIT implementation) and restarted VLC, nothing changed, except the lua errors point out earlier in the bug report don't show up anymore. Here's the full log: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=14243586289186258847 Also tried to send another message to this bug report, but for some reason it wasn't accepted, here's what I wanted to add last time: Strangely the webm format still plays properly with VLC 2.1.5 (stable) on Windows. Can't check under Debian as I have no way of getting binaries for that specific version. If it would be useful/required to test 2.1.5 on Debian, in the end I could compile it.
