Package: gnome-mplayer
Version: 1.0.6-1
Severity: normal
Hello Debian Multimedia Maintainers,
since long ago, I have experienced frequent segmentation faults by
gnome-mplayer, when using it inside iceweasel (with gecko-mediaplayer
and xul-ext-noscript installed).
Steps to reproduce the bug:
0) start iceweasel
1) open an MPEG, WMV or AVI video in a new tab, for instance:
http://content.funny-base.com/videos2/trunkmonkey01.wmv
2) the NoScript extension blocks the video; right-click on the page
and select "Temporarily allow content.funny-base.com" from the
NoScript submenu
3) the control buttons of the gecko-mediaplayer interface appear, but
the video is not shown; /var/log/kern.log shows that gnome-mplayer
segfaulted:
gnome-mplayer[6593]: segfault at 4 ip 00007f78e8bc863f sp 00007fffd6a7f5b0
error 4 in libglib-2.0.so.0.3200.3[7f78e8b62000+f5000]
4) reload the iceweasel tab ([Ctrl+R])
5) the video is shown, without any further segfault
6) select "Revoke Temporary Permissions" from the NoScript submenu
This issue seems to happen with most MPEG, WMV, and AVI videos, both
when the video is opened in a dedicated tab (as described above)
and when the video is embedded in a web page area (as in
http://www.funny-base.com/videos/792-trunkmonkey01.html )
Please note that using mplayer directly does not seem to cause any
segfault:
$ mplayer http://content.funny-base.com/videos2/trunkmonkey01.wmv
The video is shown without any glitch.
Please try to reproduce the bug and investigate its cause.
Please fix the issue and/or forward this bug report upstream,
as appropriate.
Thanks for your time!

Great, thanks for testing.

Since this would involve a library transition, it has to wait until after the
wheezy release.
