Thanks for the effort, sort of.

HandBrake is a versatile, easy-to-use tool for converting DVDs and other videos into H.264, XViD, or OGG formatted media. It's particularly useful for making videos that are compatible with portable video devices such as the Apple iPod/iPhone or Sony PSP.

*This version of handbrake has been modified for inclusion in Debian. It does neither support audio encoding to AAC via faac nor MP4 format muxing via libmp4v2, it falls back to the MKV format instead. *

This package contains the graphical variant, ghb.

I understand that Debian's policy is Debian's policy, but in this case I find the restriction one not of my choice. Going from converting to either MPEG4 or MKV down to MKV is not more choice.

Thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with Deb Multimedia as I personally could give a rat's behind about mkv and with aac/mpeg4 they work out just fine for my Mac world. Any chance you could provide a non-free version? If not, then I only have one request:

Please don't screw with the packaging priority so I have to reinstall Deb Multimedia by hand each time, instead of a simple apt-get upgrade. It's never wise to pee on your user base.

I imagine you will ignore this request and I'll have to just keep reinstalling it or I'll bug Christian Marillat to make sure there is a workaround.

- Sincerely,

Marc J. Driftmeyer
