The package managers will not install vlc version 2, refusing to "downgrade"
from version 1, which is seen as "newer" than version 2.
Similarly for some of the packages upon which vlc depends:

That's most likely because you have crappy unofficial packages from
d-m.o installed which introduced an epoch in their version number.
