Sponsoring is something different: You prepare a packaging alone, and find someone with upload rights who will trust your work and release it on your behalf.
If you like teamwork, you need no sponsor but a peer review - preferrably by more of us, but at least from one of us with upload rights to Debian.
A few of us are hysterical regarding packaging style. I am one of those: I will only work on packages using CDBS. Sadly you just gutted the CDBS packaging and replaced it with short-form dh, so I will not work on it. You need to find someone else (or revert that part, then I'd love to help out!).
