Package: mplayer
Version: 2:1.0~rc3++final.dfsg1-1
Severity: important
I recently encountered several Matroska (MKV) files that mplayer cannot play.
For a couple of examples, try
http://www.archive.org/download/ArcadeTheSimpsonsTheArcadeGame4-playerIn1337.73_956/simpsonsarcade-tas-adelikatdarkkobold.mkv
and
http://www.archive.org/download/SegacdTheTerminatorIn1320.67/terminator-tas-adelikatcardboard.mkv
..
mplayer says:
[mkv] Track 1 has been compressed with an unknown/unsupported compression
[mkv] algorithm (3). Skipping track.
[mkv] Track ID 1: video (V_MPEG4/ISO/AVC), -vid 0
[mkv] Track ID 2: audio (A_VORBIS), -aid 0, -alang und
[mkv] Will play video track 1.
This then leads to errors playing the video track later:
Starting playback...
[h264 @ 0x7fc284953600]AVC: nal size 2556773
[h264 @ 0x7fc284953600]no frame!
Error while decoding frame!
[h264 @ 0x7fc284953600]AVC: nal size 14913
[h264 @ 0x7fc284953600]no frame!
Error while decoding frame!
[h264 @ 0x7fc284953600]AVC: nal size 11329
[h264 @ 0x7fc284953600]no frame!
Error while decoding frame!
Those messages repeat forever until I Ctrl-C mplayer.
totem plays the same file without issue.

so does mplayer from experimental. I don't have a suitable machine at
hand right now, need to setup one later. but could anyone please check
if 'ffplay' plays it okay?
moreover, does the option '-demuxer lavf' fix this issue in rc3?
