I can confirm this bug. I have a clean testing (Squeeze) installation, and
after the upgrade of libva1 yesterday, I have no picture on any of my AVI
files. Audio, however, is working, just no picture.
I'm playing videos in Kaffeine.

You're likely also affected by http://bugs.debian.org/586016. As I stated in
that bug, you need to report this bug to whomever you're getting your package
for libva from.
If this isn't the same issue, feel free to reopen this bug.
