I tried with LANG=cs_CZ.UTF-8 JAVACMD=/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-sun/bin/java josm and can open preferences without a problem. Maybe there is a font package missing or something? I will try in a stripped down environment tomorrow to see if i can catch the error.
