Well, wether you are really online or not doesn't matter. If
network-manager is installed, evolution will follow what network-manager
thinks. So if it thinks it's online, good, either, evolution will
consider itself offline, full stop.

Now, in this case, NM is marked as online and evolution is offline? The
little icon on bottom left says “offline” too?
