These bugs are now publicly visible.
Regarding the powerpc failure, I dimly remembered that there had been a
problem on this architecture already. It turns out that this was exactly
the same problem we have now and fortunately that was fixed in
0.98.4~rc1+dfsg-3.
Thus rebasing that patch on the current release was sufficient to fix
the problem.
