Not sure I understand how this test is trying to make it hard on the system enough that it would trash a mapped buffer.

Do you understand this test more than I do?

I do not see the point of testing this functionality though since even if the gl implementation did allow corrupting the buffer, it would be very hard to detect this reliably.
