Hi Alex, I've been using LetsEncrypt.
This page https://gethttpsforfree.com clearly documents the steps to get a certificate manually. I ended up writing an automated javascript (nodejs) version of the steps on that page that works for my purposes but is essentially just 'get it done' code.
