$fieldcount =  mysql_num_fields($fieldresult);

for ($my_counter = 0; $my_counter < $fieldcount; $my_counter++} {
$fieldsize = mysql_field_len($fieldresult, $my_counter); 

echo "fieldsize = ".$fieldsize;
echo "<br>";

}

other useful field informatiomn functions are ...

$fieldname = mysql_field_name($fieldresult, $my_counter);    
$fieldtype = mysql_field_type($fieldresult, $my_counter);
