I know all of ZERO ASP but think I infer what you are trying to do from that
code snippet. What you want is:
#Do not need an ODBC conenction first off
$connect=mysql_pconnect('localhost', 'user', 'password');
mysql_select_db('database', $connect);
# Do the SQL query
$resource=mysql_query('SELECT * FROM categories');
# Step through each row returned
while($row=mysql_fetch_array($queryexe)){
extract($row);
echo "$categoryid, $catdescription, $catimage<br/>";
}
Hope this helps,
-Peter

I have jsut recently installed a php development kit on my windows platform.
Im interested in using the session functions but I am recieving this error
when I use session_start():
Warning: open(/tmp\sess_540ded508edf231c47fe85bd970f936a, O_RDWR) failed: m
(2) in d:\phpdev\www\phpdev4\samples\samp13.htm on line 4
Im assuming it has got to do something with the location it store the
seesion id file. I had a look in my php.ini file and here is the the
following configuration:
[Session]
; Handler used to store/retrieve data.
session.save_handler = files
; Argument passed to save_handler. In the case of files, this is the path
; where data files are stored.
session.save_path = D:\phpdev\php\temp;
; Whether to use cookies.
session.use_cookies = 1
; Name of the session (used as cookie name).
session.name = PHPSESSID
; Initialize session on request startup.
session.auto_start = 0
; Lifetime in seconds of cookie or, if 0, until browser is restarted.
session.cookie_lifetime = 0
; The path for which the cookie is valid.
session.cookie_path = /
Im not to sure why this is all ways happening. If anyone haas a solution or
knows why this might occur could you please respond or email me at

Much appreaciated

I have problems with mysql_fetch return the wrong records. If I execute the
sql statement in mysql, I receive the correct results. When I used
mysql_fetch function, it does not return the correct results. Below is my
function and the format sql statement
function companiesByBusiness_ZipCode_BusinessOrContactName( $ctgyno,
$zipcode, $businessandcontactname ) {
$sql = "select company_no, name, contact, business_phone, mobile_phone,
services_desc, brief_bio, pager, address, city, state, zipcode,
picture_file, case ifnull(picture_file, 'No Picture') when 'No Picture' then

if( $ctgyno != "ALL") {
$sql .= " where business_ctgy_no = $ctgyno";
if( $zipcode != "" ) {
$sql .= " and (zipcode like '".substr( $zipcode, 0, 3 )."%' and zipcode

//$numrows = mysql_num_rows( $query );
while( $assoc = mysql_fetch_assoc( $query ) ) {

sql statement:

picture_file, case ifnull(picture_file, 'No Picture') when 'No Picture' then

(zipcode like '276%' and zipcode != '27616') and (name = 'Gil Bryan' or

It seems like it is ignoring the last condition, name = 'Gil Bryan' or
contact = 'Gil Bryan'). Any help is greatly appreciated.

First, I'd suggest echoing $sql just before you send it to mysql to ensure
that what you hope is there is actually there. Also, what are you
returning from your function? Or how are you using the data gathered from
your tables?

When performing the last stage of development (placing the code from the
development server [my machine in my case] to the production server [a
test directory in the hosting server]) carefull must be taken regarding
the following:
a) Versions of PHP and MySQL
I'd to retrofit a site, replacing all the new arrays with the older
ones. In the production server, PHP was 4.06 which doesn't support
$_SERVER[] and the like
b) Configuration details
Make a test page which displays phpinfo() so you can check how
diferent the configuration is
c) current errors
In your case, it seams that you are doing some output prior to
setting the sessions.
As it is working in your machine i would infer either a diferent
version of PHP or an output buffer (don't remember exact item) turned on
in your machine but off in the production machine.
Cheers, and hopping to have been of help...

Hey guys,
I want to know how to retrieve data from POST (form) ...
What I want to do is...
I've got a textarea for ppl to enter large amount of text (essay), and I let
ppl submit it (using POST), then insert these data into mySQL.
I get it working if I use GET (I only know how to use GET, dunno about POST)
with small amount of words (say 1600 characters), but when there are more
than 2000 characters, the submit button doesn't work. And I found that it is
becoz GET does not allow too large amount of text appear in the URL...
So anyone can teach me how to get data from POST? I read some web sites but
still have no idea how to do it ... I think I need an example...
Please help

Have you tried this URL yet:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html401/interact/forms.html#edef-FORM
(www.w3.org might want to be your first choice when your are looking for specifications
details about HTML and HTTP transfers.)
Also remember that GET is restricted to ASCII transfers, and if you happens
to have binary data you should uses POST.
But more precisly what are your problems:
1) can't post the data
2) can't get the values from posted data
3) something else
??
Cheers,
Anders

Hi all,
I use following script to generate a resized png image on the fly. I tried
for several hours and found that it
not works for every png image. And finally i found that the
imagecreatfrompng() only works for 24bits png.
i.e my script does not works on my abc.png which is 8bpp(bitsperpixel),
after i increased it;s color depth to 24bits,
it works perfectly. Is it true that the png function only works on 24bpp png
image? (i'm not sure...)
Or put it on this way, how can i increase the color depth in php before
process following script?
I use apache 2.x on win2k, php4.2.2 with php_gd.dll enabled.
<?php
$image = imagecreatefrompng("abc.png");
$newimage = imagecreate(300, 300);
$black = imagecolorallocate($newimage, 0,0,0);
imagecopyresized($newimage, $image, 0, 0, 0, 0, 300, 300, 400, 300);
imagedestroy($image);
imagestring($newimage, 2, 10, 10, "Copyright 2001", $black);
header("Content-type: image/png");
imagepng($newimage);
imagedestroy($newimage);
?>
Thanks in advance.
