Have you tried reinstalling Apache and PHP? You may just have a corrupt installation. Also, you may want to try using a packet sniffer and seeing exactly what kind of output Apache is sending. If you have some server variable set too low (ie. Timeout, KeepAliveTimeout) or you may have KeepAlive turned off altogether. Sometimes this will screw browsers up (even though it really shouldn't).
