Hi,
I am a newbie to PHP and have bought some books to help me learn it,
unfortunately I cant seem to get any php files to work, I have followed the
instructions from these teaching books and from the PHP Manual and still
cant get it to work. When I try to do that phpinfo file for example all I
see is the code and Windows2000 does not seem to understand the file type
and allways asks me what program I would like to install.
I have managed to Install Apache on IIS and all seems to be working.
I have edited the php.ini file as suggested in the books I bought.
I have gone through the instructions on the PHP manual to set up the
extension for .php
and now I appear to be lost.
If you could help I'd be most grateful thanks.
Richard.
Have you set up your Apache config file correctly? When you say you are
'lost', what exactly is happening now? Is Apache serving html files
correctly? What error are you getting when you try phpinfo?
Tony

When I load phpinfo.php all I get is the source code:
<?
php_info();
?>
How would I test the Apache for HTML files? the 2 tests I have done are to
run http://localhost which comes up with a page saying Apache is working
correctly.
And the second test I did was to run the software that came with Apache
which tests the Syntax and that also says everything is correct.
When I say i am lost its because I dont know where to go now.
Thanks for the help. Hope I have given you enough info. Please ask for more
if I havnt.

I now have to add to my problems, Apache is now using port 80 and is
conflicting with
my default website. Is there anyway to change this because I cant use the
default website.

If i create ISAPI - the apache have sometime more then 60000 kb RAM. This is
same problem with php.exe.
But thank you.
I sent this message last night to php.general, but might be, thait it
belongs here:
Trying to find something wrong with my code, lately finding out, that
there apparently is nothing
wrong with it (in this particular case). I wish for verification.
As a developement box I run a W2K, newest Apache and PHP 4.0.whatnot.
Had this problem of first, index, page loaded not getting a SID. It
required
reloading once, before sessions started working for itself. Impossible
to accept, since login (through a different file) is possible straight
from this page. Header("location: referer etc") kept sending me back to
the
unsessioned page. No amount of forceful SID entries helped. Got very
annoyed and pulled one of those sure-to-work "hello world" programs:
<?
session_start();
session_register("SESSION");
if (! isset($SESSION)) {
$SESSION["count"] = 0;
echo "<li>Counter initialized, please reload this page to see it
increment";
} else {
echo "<li>Waking up session $PHPSESSID";
$SESSION["count"]++;
}
echo "<li>The counter is now $SESSION[count] ";
?>
Guess what, it did not work either. Except that it did, uploaded to the
providers server (basic unix stuff. More or less the same version on
PHP), as did my own script. Now why is that?
Does someone know a explanation/remedy for this, since it makes
developing slightly inconsistent with this requiring that gimmick and
that not.
And yes, /temp is set.
Regards to anyone cring to answer.

Well on the 190 and 191 line of httpd.conf is the following:
LoadModule php4_module c:/programas/php/sapi/php4apache.dll
AddType application/x-httpd-php .php4
As I said before, it has always worked fine with this config., until
recently.
