You do not need to have any PHP files in winnt\system32.
On my system I have all php files in c:\php4 and I have php.ini in c:\winnt.
I have created script mappings connecting the .php extension with c:\php4\php.exe or
c:\php4\php4isapi.dll
This way it is easy to update and maintain, and I can even have different versions of
php4 (CGI)installed on the same system (ie in php-4.0.5)
