Installing MySQL on Windows; 1. Download the Mysql Win32 Binary. 2. Install as per setup file. Leave the default dir as mysql it's easier 3. Run c:\mysql\bin\mysqlshow - this should show a Database listing. 4. Set up password for root. - cd c:\mysql\bin - Type mysql - Type DELETE FROM user WHERE username =''; this will delete the default user - Type UPDATE user SET password=PASSWORD('my_new_password') WHERE user='root'; To change the root password - Type exit; to quit mysql - Type mysqladmin reload this will update the privileges you've just changed - To make sure these have taken type mysql, you should get an access denied error - Now type mysql -uroot -p. You will be prompted for the password you gave above. - Enter this and you should be let in. - You should really set up another user other than root for PHP to access the db but if it's only for testing you should be ok. - I also recommend phpmyadmin for web administration. This is very quick so it let me know if you have any other probs I will try to help All this info is in the mysql docs that come with the distro but can be a little hard to find M@ > -----Original Message----- > From: Jan Aagaard [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] > Sent: 09 February 2001 11:33 > To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > Subject: [PHP-WIN] MySQL setup tutorial > > > Anybody out there know where I can find a good tutorial on how to set op > MySQL and make it work with PHP on the Windows platform? > > Please send a reply to my e-mail address allso. > > - Jan Aagaard > > > > -- > PHP Windows Mailing List (http://www.php.net/) > To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] > To contact the list administrators, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] >
Alomost forgot put this between 2 and 3. You need to start the mysql demon by typing c:\mysql\bin\mysqld on win 9x (this need will need to be run on every boot) or on NT/2000 c:\mysql\bin\mysqld-nt --install to install it as a service. > Installing MySQL on Windows; > > 1. Best thing to do, is complain to his host. This yahoo uses his own url in the spam (not very bright). After doing a whois, we of course have all his details :) >From this info we can complain directly, and to his ISP. We can't let these MF'ers continue this crap. Up till late yesterday I was able to query my database but now I receive this error. Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data., SQL state S1000 in SQLConnect in wwwroot\test.php on line 2 My script is only trying to make a connection at this time and it does not work <?php $cnx = odbc_connect (equipment2,'',''); ?> What went wrong? Thanks, Aaron
This usually happens when another user opens a table for modification (table definition): the table gets locked to all access. If you're only running localhost try "repairing" your database: maybe you got a corrupted table or db. Also if you're only on localhost, restart your computer to make sure all files get closed. If you're not only running localhost, and the database is on a remote server, you might have some more trouble, but still would need to do some/all of these actions. That was like a gunshot, but it has worked for me in the past... ;) Gonzalo. > Up till late yesterday I was able to query my database but now I receive > this error. > Warning: SQL error: [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft > Jet database engine cannot open the file '(unknown)'. I've just tried creating an entirely new database and receive the same error as well as reparing the old database. I've restarted the web server, still the same problem. The access 2000 db is on an iis 4.0 server which worked fine previously. Thanks, Aaron "Gonzalo Vera" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... Then probably some permision trouble, different login? different file location? Again, I'm at a loss (also switching from Win95 to Linux) :)) Gonzalo. > I've just tried creating an entirely new database and receive the same error > as well as reparing the old database. Access 2000 on IIS 4.0 "Gonzalo Vera" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> wrote in message [EMAIL PROTECTED]">news:[EMAIL PROTECTED]... What DB are you using? At least in older versions of access it's better to enclose field names in square brackets, like "SELECT Location, [Dept ID], [Equip Type] FROM Equipment01 WHERE Location = '415C' AND [Equip Type] = 'C'" Also, shouldn't you end with a semicolon? The weird thing here is that it worked before. Sorry if I can't get any farther, I'm just switching from access 95 to MySQL (bye bye MS), and in access 95 those would be troublesome issues. Hello, I have Apache 1.3.14 installed and I downloaded PHP 4.0.4pl1, unzipped it, moved all .DLL files as per the install.txt file to my WINNT\System32 dir and changed the httpd.conf to LoadModule f:/php/sapi/php4apache.dll, added all the other lines etc. The msg I am getting when I want to startup the Apache server is: Syntax error on line 205 of f:/apache/conf/httpd.conf: Cannot load f:/apache/modules/php4apache.dll into server: (126) The specified module could not be found: I have PHP installed on f:\php. I also moved all f:\php\sapi .dll files to f:\apache\modules and changed the httpd.conf accordingly (thats why above apache is looking for the module in f:\apache\modules). It didnt work and it wouldnt work when LoadModule was set to load from f:\php\sapi. I have also copied php.ini to my sysroot which is d:\winnt Any ideas? Ognen
A curious man is me. I have some binary data that I wish to insert into a database, and all examples I have seen have used: $to_save = addslashes($binary_data); This is supposed to escape all the characters that databases don't like. This function does not always work. Some times it is fine, other times it causes my SQL statement to be completely wrong, or it evaluates the ('$to_save') variable as NULL and returns SQL COUNT field incorrect. Am I missing something? Can someone tell me how they guarantee that all the bad characters will be escaped? Thanks in advance RDB
