I looked again at the list of extensions within php.ini and saw one I missed removing, the php_iisfunc.dll.
Did a save on php.ini and reran test.php and the error is gone. However, the digit '1' remains at the bottom left of my phpinfo() output page in the margins. Sorry for the inconvience of my finding 'poor eyesight' helps to cause configuration problems. Blessings, Chetan
