Hello all: Sorry if this is FAQ - I don't seem to be able to find any.
I just installed the latest Apache (2.2) and PHP (5.2.1) on a Sun Sparc Linux platform. It was a vanilla installation, followed almost to the letter the instructions at http://www.php.net/manual/en/install.unix.apache2.php (although this is for apache 2.0, not 2.2). The only difference was that mysql path was required for php ./configure, even though mysql is installed in the standard place. The problem is that the server does not process php properly. Putting the code below into index.php <? echo "<html><body>"; echo "It works"; echo "</body></html>"; ?> and trying to browse this page I see an empty screen in the browser, 'view source' shows exactly this code. That is the server does not interpret the php code - it just dumps it into the page! I noticed that /usr/local/bin/php when invoked with -i returns php(cli) - in my previous installations it was php(cgi). Can anyone please help me to understand what is going on here - from that little info I managed to find it looks like the server is using php in cli mode instead of cgi mode - is this the case? What needs to be done to get it working? All hints would be highly appreciated, TIA, /vb
