Did you tell Apache to parse .php files as PHP? (By adding something 
like "AddType application/x-httpd-php .php" (without the quotes) to 
httpd.conf)

I can link to and execute file.php scripts just fine, but scripts imbedded
with <?php ... ?> in html files are not parsed/executed.
