[PHP-INSTALL] My SQL

I just installed PHP and MySQL on Windows XP..
I am able to use MySQLManager to connect, create tables, run reports, etc.
But I am not able to connect to it, mysql_connect("localhost", 
"[user]","[password]"); from PHP.
Someone said that I needed to included the path of MySql in the PHP.ini 
file.  Does anybody of an example for that?
